I shared at AA about ganging up on someone in the meeting to reject them or to make them leave. This is not what the 12 steps teach. These people are still stepping on the toes of others. They are being unfair. They are saying that atheists and agnostics are unfair for not believing in a Supreme Being that has all power. Many of us believe in no God or we believe in more than one God. We don’t really know about the idea of a God or Gods. We don’t attack anyone because it is unfair to attack others.
Unfair people gang up and attack with an ad hominem fallacy. They name call. They label. They scapegoat and condemn by categorizing the other as crazy or as guilty. They bring up mistakes of our past. They make it us versus you. They try to single out people. This is unfair. They try to unite their Supreme Being group by saying atheists and agnostics are wrong to not believe in a supreme being that has all power. They say this belief is the only belief that is acceptable. They say all other beliefs are sinful.
They try to dominate us with an all-powerful God. We don’t claim there is an all-powerful God. Perhaps there are many Gods and none of them have all power. Perhaps there is no God. All of us should stop being unfair to each other.
We unite what they have divided. We teach fairness for all and fairness from all. We teach that believing in Supreme Being is ok if it is a supreme being that is fair to all. It must be loving and forgiving, and it must also be fair to atheists and agnostics.
Fighting against each other is destroying all of us. Unity is possible with our way of fairness for all and fairness from all.
What’s ahead of us is more important than what’s in the past. We don’t need to close the door on the past, but we also don’t need to be using it as a weapon against people that have become fair and are no longer unfair to others. Our past can be resolved, and we do not need to think about it.
Stop unfairness. Pray for fairness. Victory will follow. Peace will follow. We are struggling with the damage already done from unfairness instead of nipping it in the bud with fairness from now on. We want fairness for all and fairness from all. Don’t forget an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
